German Retail

During our time in Berlin I interviewed a handful of people while I was shopping at the Berlin mall. All of the individuals that I interviewed were from Germany, however two of them also said that they regularly travel to other countries within Europe. Based on this, I chose to summarize these two interviews.
Interview #1:
The first person I interviewed, Frank, was born and raised in Berlin. He told me that shopping in Germany was average compared to other countries across Europe. He told me it was a fairly cheap place to shop and that he believes its economy attracts most of Europe’s largest retail chains. He seemed fairly educated about the issue, and I later figured out that he actually owned his own small souvenir shop outside of town.
Interview #2:
The other German that I interviewed, Lena, did not seem to know as much regarding the overall retail industry of Germany. However, she was able to tell me that she shops at one, if not two, malls within Berlin each week. She told me that her favorite stores at the mall were H&M and Mac, and that she does most of her grocery shopping at the Aldi near her home. She also told me that shopping is done very differently across Europe. For instance, retail and shopping is quite similar in Austria, but in countries like Italy and France, shopping and retail are done very differently. I look forward to recognizing and experiencing these differences as our trip carries on.
